The Quintet

Recipient of a Vermont Arts Council Creation Grant and Selmer-Paris Endorsed Artist, saxophonist Brian McCarthy is an active player, composer and educator based in Burlington, Vermont. Upon receiving his Bachelors and  Masters from William Paterson University, Brian returned to Vermont to cultivate and expand the appreciation of jazz in his home state. His first release, "This Just In" (2013) received wide acclaim and led to performances at The Flynnspace, ShapeShifter Lab, Sidedoor Jazz Club, Lake Placid Center for the Arts and more. His most recent nonet project, "The Better Angels of Our Nature" centered around re-imagining the music of the Civil War and premiered at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in 2015. He is currently on faculty at St. Michael's College and University of Vermont.
